Lately, I have been teetering on going beyond Vegtables in the Garden. I have been reading another blog that belongs to a friend on Twitter! Her blog is here on Blogger called Cheesehead Gardening! She is a huge Hosta Geek! Hostas are her passion. She knows tons of great things about Hostas. Every time I read a new post, I got excitied and wanted to grow them. Jen (@hostageek on twitter) asked me one day if I wanted a Hosta that she had. I said, YES!!! After waiting with great anticipation. They arrived to my house in California all the way from Wisconsin! Exciting isnt it! Even more exciting there were 3 differnt types of Hostas! More then I had expected! I unpacked those babies and put them in some water. At the begining of the week I started to make an area to grow them in my backyard.
Getting the dirt ready and all that fun stuff. Today was the big day! I planted my Hostas with the help of my little one Kyla. She is 6 and loves to garden with me. She decorated our Hosta bed with rocks and ceramic frogs and snails. It looks so cute and has brightened up that empty garden bed. Thanks again Jen, for bringing Hostas into my life!
My very first Hostas!
You are more than welcome! I love spreading the hosta love!

Hi Jen...you probably already know this...and know more than I about hostas already, but the one thing I have experienced, I'll share...and that is snails. am I right? or, am I right.
ReplyDeletealso, your little garden is totally charming!
ReplyDeleteThese are actually the first Hosta's I have ever tried to grow in my garden! But I have been warned about those pesky lil snails! So you are right! Snails + Hostas= dead snails in my garden, lol!
ReplyDeleteDiatomaceous earth is an organic alternative for slugs. Don't have snails here in WI so not sure if it works for snails too.
