Recycling a Lettuce Garden

I am always on the look out of doing Recycled projects!
I have a few in the works, that I will be sharing soon!

I thought today I would share with you, one of my favorite recycle projects!

What you will need:
Wheel Burrow
Soil
Seeds
Water

Today, I am starting a Container Lettuce. I would definitely consider a wheel burrow a container!
I will be growing Garden Babies Butterhead by Renee's Garden

First I got my soil ready. I used Organic soil mixed with a little rabbit poo.

I made a few rows in the wheel burrow for my seeds. I spaced each row about 2-3 inches apart.

I then, Sprinkled the seeds and covered the rows with soil. Gave them a nice sprinkle of water. I guess now, I just wait!

I put my wheel burrow by the door of my greenhouse.
This way in the afternoon the lettuce will have a little shade.

What recycling projects are you doing?

Happy Gardening!!!

Super-sized Nasturtiums for September

What a great growing season it has been!
I have been hard at work growing food this year. For the first time I incorporated flowers.
The Spitfire Nasturtium has been a great addition to my garden. This year has been a great growing season for me.

I have never seen Nasturtium leaves  this big before! I had my teenage son but his next to the leaves for comparison.

They are HUGE! I did add rabbit poo and aged horse manure to this flower bed.

This Nasturtium is growing with other flowers in a flower bed I started this year.

Nasturtiums also found a happy home with my Tomitillos! I have learned that Nasturtiums are a great companion to any garden area. They add pretty foliage and a pop of color to any area.
I am so happy to have grown the Nasturtium Spitfire. I am glad I tried something new.

I have collected many seeds for next year and can't wait to grow them for years to come! The weather has not stopped them from trucking on. Although Cali weather has been odd this summer. I think my "Nasties" will continue on till the first frost. They seem very happy in my backyard garden!

"Im growing the Nasturtium "Spitfire" for the Grow Project Thanks to Renee's Garden for the seeds!"

Help! My beans are taking over! Teaching them to grow up!

The pole beans are taking over my homemade stick fence. It looks very pretty, but they are smothering my tomato's and eggplants. We cant have that. So, today by looking through many books and some internet research on trellising. I came up with a solution that will still make my garden look very nature like and organic.

I added the longest branches I could find and attached them to the sturdiest parts of my fence. Tied them up with some butchers twine.

The leaves on the bean plants are so pretty. Im growing Tri color pole beans  up this trellis. I ordered these seeds from Renee's Garden Seed. Im excitied to see and taste them. I have had such a great experience this year with this company's seeds. I will be buying most of mine from them next year.

I then spent a good 30 minutes trying to untangle my pole beans to train them to go up instead of clumping and invading my tomato's.

Here is my trellis all completed! In a few weeks I should have a gourgous green wall of beans with specs of purple and yellow.

What kind of beans are you growing in your garden?

Happy Gardening Friends!!!
